Biography

Donalee has been doing yoga since the late 90’s and teaching since 2006.  She now holds Senior Teacher Status (800hrs+) with the Yoga Association of Alberta (YAA) with over 1,000 hours of training and 2,000 hours of teaching experience, and is Coordinator for the YAA Teacher Training and Certification Programs.  She is also registered with the Yoga Alliance as an E-RYT-500 and YACEP.  In 2018 she sat on the Advisory Group for Teacher Qualifications as part of the Yoga Alliance Standards Review Project.

First introduced to yoga by Anita Sielecki at the U of A, she took her teacher training through the YAA, mentored in a precise alignment-based style by Teddy Hyndman, now a Senior Certified Iyengar Yoga Instructor.  Through immersions and workshops held at Yoga for Today in Sherwood Park, she fell in love with the the heart-oriented style and alignment principles taught in Anusara yoga through Robin Golt of Montreal.  Over the years Donalee has also studied with Marla Ericksen, Kate Potter, Michael Stone, David McAmmond, Sandra Sammartino, Christina Sell, Barrie Risman, Gerda Krebs, David Wilson, Brea Johnson, and many others. Her training also includes work in Yoga Therapy, Prenatal Yoga, Radiant Child Yoga, YogaKids Foundations, Bellyfit and Tui-La Acupressure Massage, plus University-level coursework in Philosophy, Psychology, Religious Studies, Writing and Dance.

A passionate yoga teacher and trainer, Donalee is a strong advocate for high quality yoga teacher training.  She offers Workshops as well as mentorship through the YAA's apprenticeship-style Teacher Training and Certification Programs with advanced training levels.  Resonating deeply with the philosophies of yoga, she also leads the yoga philosophy component of teacher training at Yoga for Today in Sherwood Park, and aspires to embody truth, consciousness and bliss in yoga and in life.

Weekly Classes vary from week-to-week and are offered at various venues throughout Sherwood Park and Strathcona County.  The pace varies from slow and restorative to flowing and strong, with modifications and props offered for injuries and limitations so everyone can participate at a level that feels safe and comfortable.  Gentle and Chair Yoga classes are also available, as well as a wide offering of drop-in classes.  See the Calendar page for day-by-day schedule.  Interspersed throughout each class is training in breathing techniques, mindfulness, and guided meditation.  Classes end with a deep relaxation that leaves you refreshed, revitalized, and ready for the rest of your day, or prepared for a good night's sleep.

Donalee has a passion for teaching theme-based and heart-oriented yoga classes and workshops, incorporating the philosophies of yoga, esoteric anatomy and life-enhancing principles of alignment. By embodying philosophical attitudes and energetic actions within the physical practice, she helps students of all levels to safely explore the frontiers of body, mind and spirit.  She welcomes questions, comments and inquiries at the contact info above.
